How to Play

  1. Divide students into small teams and have students stand side by side in circles with their teammates.
  2. Give each team one water balloon.
  3. Explain that in each round they are trying to get the water balloon all the way around the circle without popping it.
  4. After each round that the water balloon has made it all the way around the circle, students take a step back and pass again.
  5. The winning team is the last team left with an un-popped water balloon.
  6. As teams get out, have them cheer for other teams.
  7. This activity can be played several times based on time and the number of water balloons.

Activity Prompts for Reflection

  • What positive praise did you receive during this activity?
  • Can anyone give another teammate some positive praise for something they did?
  • How did your team work together during this activity?
  • What strengths did you bring to your team for this activity?

Other Ways to Play

  • Use regular balloons instead of water balloons. Students must not move their feet each round and the goal is to not let the balloon touch the ground.
  • For younger students to make it easier, use a large water-soaked sponge. See how far back they can get without dropping it.
  • Have the group stand together in a large circle instead of splitting them into teams.
