Description
Students guess whether facts are true or false in this active line game.
Supplies
- No supplies needed
How to Play
- Students stand up in a line.
- Explain that to the right of the line is true and the left of the line is false and that you will read aloud a fact. Students must decide whether it’s true or false and jump to the corresponding side.
- After everyone has made their guess, announce whether the fact is true or false and students standing on the wrong side must go to the back of the line.
- Example statements:
-
- Apples float in water (True)
- The number four is the only number with the same amount of letters (True)
- Human skeleton has 100 bones (False, 206 bones)
- Tomatoes are fruits (True)
- Sharks are mammals (False, they are fish)
- You cannot cry in outer space (True)
- Some animals can get sunburn (True)
- A snake egg is the smallest egg in the world (False, hummingbird egg)
- Hawaii gets the least rainfall in the world (False, on average it gets the most)
Activity Prompts for Reflection
- Was it difficult to admit when you got one wrong and had to move to the back of the line?
- What was a good choice you made during the activity?
- If we played this again, what would you want to do differently?
- What is a mistake you made during this activity?
Other Ways to Play
- To make this more relatable, choose facts that are interesting to your students.
- To make this more educational, ask for a math fact or even site/spelling words.
- Make this into a “get to know you” game where each round one student comes to the front and says something about themselves that is either true or false.
Additional Notes
- Use the SEL Activity Prompts to tie other SEL competencies to this activity.
